Privacy policy

Generic Software Company, a business name registered in Australia (ABN 94 782 841 185) (we, us) makes Longview. This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website, by email, and through the Longview software, and how we handle it. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
In short. The website sets no cookies and runs no analytics. If you start a trial we keep your email address, and whatever else you choose to give us, to send your licence and talk with you about it. The software never sends us what is on your screen, what you hear, what you type or what you copy: sessions stay between your own machines. It does send us crash reports, and a licensed workstation checks its licence with us. Both go to service providers in the United States.
This website
This website uses no cookies, no analytics and no advertising or tracking scripts. It is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes the technical information any website request carries — your IP address, browser type and the pages and files requested — to deliver the website and the downloads and to protect them from abuse. Cloudflare handles that information under its own privacy policy.
The trial form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people from automated abuse. It processes information about your browser for that check, and only for that check.
When you start a trial
The trial form asks for your email address, and optionally your name, company and phone number. We use them to issue your trial licence and email it to you, to keep a record of whose trial a licence is, and to talk with you about your trial — whether it is working, and whether you would like to continue. We send you news about Longview beyond that only if you ticked the box asking for it, and every such email lets you ask us to stop.
These details are stored with the trial licence by our licensing service, and the email is sent through Google. One trial per email address is how trials work, so we keep your address for as long as we keep the licence record.
When you contact us
If you email us, we keep your name, email address and what you send us, and use them to answer you, and to provide the sales, support or licensing you asked about. Our email is hosted by Google.
The Longview software
What it does not send
A Longview session runs between your own devices, through a Connection Manager you run yourself. The picture, sound, keyboard and mouse input and clipboard of a session are never sent to us, and neither are the usernames and passwords people sign in with.
Crash and diagnostic reports
The workstation host and the clients send a report to us when they crash or hit an error, together with timing information about sessions, so that we can find and fix problems. A report contains the error and where in the software it happened, the software version, the operating system and its version, basic device information, the device's host name, and the list of software libraries loaded. Our report service also receives the IP address the report was sent from. Reports are processed for us by Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.), in the United States.
Licence checks
A workstation licensed with a licence key checks that licence with our licensing service at
api.generic-software.company, on activation and periodically after. A check sends the
licence key, a fingerprint derived from the machine's hardware, and the machine's name, host name and
operating system, so that the licence can be applied to that machine and you can see which machines
use it. A workstation licensed with a machine licence file does not contact us.
How we use and disclose personal information
We use personal information only for the purposes described above: to provide, license, support and improve Longview, to communicate with you, and to meet our legal obligations. We do not sell it, and we do not use it for advertising. We disclose it only to the service providers named in this policy, to our professional advisers, or where the law requires us to.
Overseas disclosure
Crash reports and licence checks are processed by service providers in the United States, and email and website requests may be processed by Google and Cloudflare in other countries. We take reasonable steps to ensure those providers handle personal information consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.
Security and retention
We take reasonable steps to protect the personal information we hold from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. We keep it only as long as we need it for the purposes above or as the law requires, and then delete or de-identify it.
Access, correction and complaints
You may ask for access to the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it, by emailing support@longview.network. If you have a complaint about how we have handled your personal information, email us first and we will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Changes
We may update this policy by publishing a new version here, with its date.
